Once again the sky blue kit of our club was very well represented, both in conduct and  numbers at the double header Żurrieq Half Marathon and 10k races.  24 challenged the distance of 21.1 kilometres while 45 challenged the latter, making up a total of 69.

Half Marathon Race

Andrew Grech placed third at the Half Marathon.  For once he had to come from behind, as he was misled on the race route and lost his way after a few kilometres.  By the end of the race he had covered an extra 1.7 kilometres.  This mishap however shone up the attitude of our own product, who rather than throwing in the towel ensured that our flag was carried high, ensuring also a 2nd place for our team made up of himself, David Galea and Julian Borg.

The MAC Ladies – Angele Sammut, Joanna Camilleri and Charmine Mifsud, carried on their great form shown in the MAAA Road Running League as they placed the first female team.

The following also won their respective category:

Karl Farrugia Males Under 23
David Galea Males 40-44
Hadrian Bonello Males 45 – 49

10k Race

At the 10k race, we had four runners out of 12 that stopped their clock in less than 40 minutes – Charlot Bartolo, Chris Mizzi, Ivan Cassar and Amine Zaghrouk.  The first three ensured a 1st place team finish while Amine Zaghrouk, Tonio Farrugia and Stephen Micallef formed the trio for the third place team finish.

Meanwhile, Moira Cassar, Alexia Cutajar and Liza Schembri ensured a 2nd place team finish in the Ladies Category.

Tonio Farrugia won the Males 50-54 category.

It was a bitter-sweet day for the club’s top Runner, but also one that confirmed our unity and zest for running, another reminder that races are a celebration of what we live during the week.
