Mellieħa AC organised its annual flagship event on Sunday, 4 May, where running was celebrated in the hometown of the club.  On the day, the flag of Mellieħa AC has flown highly all over the picturesque town as 173 went through the 10 kilometres of Mellieħa hilly roads.

It was also a reminder of the contribution that the club of Mellieħa AC is giving to Maltese athletics and general wellbeing as 50 of these athletes were sporting the blue vests of the organising club.  Most of these athletes have come through the ranks of the club’s academy. It was a proof of the success of the ‘If you can walk you can run’ programme.  People who maybe in the past were intimidated by the notion of running, enjoyed the whole 10 kilometres, felt the accomplishment of covering 10 kilometres and were reminded of their achievement by a medal.

As expected Mellieħa AC’s own Andrew Grech dominated the race from start to finish, stopping the clock at 33:31.  While such time is far from his personal best, an attest of the tough route, Andrew managed to drop 32 seconds from last year’s winning time that had his own signature.

Catherine Chetcuti was the first female with a time of 44:40.

A further 32 budding athletes took part in the 2km Fun Run, which was won by Matthew Pisani and once again Mellieħa AC’s own Jodie Mifsud.
