Mellieha Athletics Club at the Malta Marathon and Half Marathon

Mellieha AC was once again heavily represented in both the marathon and half marathon races organised on Sunday, 5th March.  10 athletes braved and finished the 42 kilometres, while another 97 athletes covered the still laudable 21 kilometres.

Mellieha AC did not just fill the roads between Mdina and Sliema but also the podium.  Andrew Grech was the first Maltese to cover the whole distance in 2:28:16.

It was the perfect day for Grech, as he bettered his previous personal best by over 4 minutes.  He was also part of the winning team alongside Paul Formosa, who placed as the third Maltese national and Julian Borg.

The trio of Alan Camilleri, Charlie Vella and Manfred Borda placed as the third team in the same race.

Paul Formosa was also the overall 2nd in the Over 40 category.

Stephen Borg was also the first Maltese to cross the finish line at the Half Marathon race with a time of 1:14:28.  Borg also won the Over 45 category.

Philip Vella and Shawn Pullicino followed on his footprints to ensure a repeat of the Marathon Team feat by winning the Half Marathon team awards.

Likewise, the female team of Margaret Seguna, Agnetha Agius and Alexia Cutajar won the Female Team Awards.

James Sciriha, Clint Aquilina and Darran Agius won the 3rd Male Team.

Julian Agius placed 3rd in the Under 23 category.

The club is celebrating its 25th anniversary in the best way possible, by putting people on the streets enjoying the sport of running and winning silverware.
