The biggest day of sport inclusion is drawing closer and closer, and close to 3,600 will be lining up the streets from the oldest city of the island, Mdina to the place where high rise buildings are the order of the day, Sliema.

A small percentage will be doing it the scenic route as they will cover a whole 42 kilometres and a bit to get to the Sliema ferries.  Others will be more direct and will cover the stretch between the two points in 21 kilometres and a bit.

Mellieha AC will be the most local athletics club represented on the day – 96 in total, as 15 of its athletes will be running the full marathon and a further 81 the half marathon.

During last year’s event its ‘A Team’ consisting of Andrew Grech, Stephen Borg and Hadrian Bonello won the Full Marathon 1st Male Team, while its ‘B Team’ consisting of Fabio Spiteri, Rodney Cassar and David Galea won the 3rd Male Team.

The Mellieha AC Ladies Team of Liza Schembri, Charmaine Mifsud and Donatelle Camilleri also won the 1st Female Team.

The ‘A Team’ of Mellieha AC in the Half Marathon consisting of Alan Camilleri, Christian Micallef and Ivan Cassar also won the 3rd Male Team.

Come what may on the day, it will be a historic and great day for the club that with its Academy and different Training Programmes under the supervision of Head Coach Has Kesra, is making the sport of athletics more accessible to everyone, aiming to prove De Coubertin right in his thinking that sport is a possible source for inner improvement for every individual.
