With just two weeks to go for the biggest race of the Maltese Athletics season – the marathon and half-marathon, a 10km race was organised by Attard AC.

The Mellieha AC contingent honoured the fixture with enthusiasm and made its presence felt on both the roads of Attard, Mosta and Ta’ Qali, as well as on the podium. Shortly after the church bells tolled nine times, it was the turn of the starting gun to voice itself and Mellieha AC’s Andrew Grech duly shot off to dominate from start to finish.

But it was not just his running rivals that he conquered – the wind at Ta’ Qali and the silent inclines from Attard to Ta’ Qali were added to his list as he covered the whole distance in 32:32 to record another personal best. Rita Galea on her part covered the same distance in 40:20 to place the second female on the day, while Marthese Mercieca followed just 3 seconds later to place third. Rodney Cassar won the Males Over 40 Category, Hadrian Bonello won the Males Over 45 Category, while Ralph Attard, a product of the Mellieha AC Academy won the Males Over 55 Category.

The club’s Head Coach Has Kesra was beaming with satisfaction as alongside all this an impressive number of Mellieha AC athletes recorded personal bests, declaring the day as an unbelievable dress-rehearsal for the big day.
