Mellieha AC is proud to announce that Andrew Grech has been selected by MAAA as the male athlete to represent Malta in the World Half Marathon Championships. This year’s Championship will be taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark on 29th March, and is organised by IAAF. This is the 19th Championship, with the first event being held in 1992 in South Shields, Great Britain.

Andrew will be following in the steps of 300 elite runners from around the world along the streets of Copenhagen.

He remarked that ‘I feels honoured to represent Malta in such a prestigious competition, rubbing my shoulders with the best runners in long distance running. It is the cherry on the cake after a very positive start and I would like to thank MAAA, my club Mellieha AC, the club’s president Julian Borg, my coach Has Kesra and my sponsors Nyoo, Garmin Malta and Malta Challenge Marathon, whom without this would not have been possible.’

The Mellieha AC Head Coach Has Kesra was also moved by this selection. He commented that, ‘it is great to work with Andrew, and this shows how far Andrew has moved since being spotted by one of the club founders Robert Vella simply running on a treadmill in a gym.’
