With very strong winds predicted, enough to make surfers think that Christmas came twice in one month, the open area of Ta’ Qali was not the ideal place for a 10 km running race.

However Mellieħa AC still presented a very strong contingent for this fourth race in the M.A.A.A. Road Running League.

Once again Andrew Grech, carried the flag of Mellieħa AC high as he finished the first Maltese with a timing of 33:08, being only second to the Sudanese Ibrahim Hussen, who runs in the St Patrick’s AC colours.

That was only part of the story for another happy day for the whole club of Mellieħa AC though, as one happy blue shirted runner after the other stopped their stopwatches and punched the air with glee after either registering a personal best, or keeping in line with their targeted time.

The high winds were defied and the countdown for the big day for either the marathon or half marathon has begun.
