As the month of August entered its last week, and summer officialy nearing its end, Mellieha AC gave birth to the new road running season by the traditional 5km Al Fresco Race.

5km Race

This is an ideal race for any runner to test his condition, probably after a slowdown in the training intensity during the summer months (coupled with a probable less controlled diet, some excess food & drinks J!).  Over the years this race has been gaining popularity, this is due to the good reputation which our club has gained over the years with regards to race organsation and also due to the enjoyable scenic route of the southern seaside town of B’Bugia .

This year this event attracted a record number of 138 athletes who took up the challenge offered by Mellieha AC.  The sky blue athletes of Mellieha AC were ever present, numbering 60 in total.

Fun Run

Following the 5k race, the young athletes were also invited to participate in a 1km Fun Run under the direct supervision of our fellow members.

The expected heat of August did not take anything off from the Mellieha AC product Andrew Grech as he raced home in 15:40.  This was the personal best time for the athlete on his 5km road races.

Clive Gerada from St Patricks AC and Bryan Magri of Pembroke Athleta followed.

Francesca Arrigo (Ladies Running Club) was the first female in.  Josanne Attard (Starmax) and Jessica Bonnici (Pembroke Athleta) followed her footprints.

Andrew Grech, Stephen Borg, Alan Camilleri and David Galea also won the team award for Mellieha AC.

Overall race results can be found here.
