A great Malta Marathon for MAC

It has been another happy Marathon Day for our club, and one that confirmed the growth and standing of our club. On a textbook February day, under grey skies, and strong showers of rain coupled with wind, our 104 blue shirted finishers at the Half Marathon event and a further 13 who finished the almighty 42.2 kilometres more than made up for the lack of blue skies.

Under the same umbrella of Mellieħa A.C., we had first-timers, seasoned runners and podium winners. Days like these make us proud to be Mellieħa A.C.

Andrew Grech placed the first Maltese in the Full Marathon distance with a personal best of 2:32:34, while Rita Galea’s personal best of 1:26:07 was enough to win the first Maltese female position in its younger sibling, the Half Marathon.

Julian Borg and Stephen Borg coupled with the winner to win the 1st Male Marathon Team, while the trio of David Galea, Hadrian Bonello and first time marathoner John M. Rapinett placed second.

Hadrian Bonello’s timing of 2:57:48 was enough to win the Males 50-54 Category, while Stephen Borg’s 2:46:30 placed him 2nd in the Males 40-44 Category.
David Galea placed 3rd in the same category with a timing of 2:52:31.

Our ladies also won the 1st team in the Half Marathon Distance through Rita Galea, Margaret Seguna and Joanna Camilleri.

Rita Galea also placed 2nd in the Females 40-44 Category.

Alan Camilleri, the fastest MACer at the Half Marathon Distance with a personal best of 1:17:23 placed 3rd in the Males 35-39 Category, while Karl Farrugia’s 1:20:57 proved that the future is bright at our club when he placed 3rd in the Males Under 23 Category.

A perfect day indeed.
